First, I wish to say that this is a story of bravery and strength by Pastor Stumbo, his family, his congregation, and those associated with him. This goes especially for those close to Pastor Stumbo--probably even more than Pastor Stumbo's personal struggles. As a cancer survivor, I know you get up each day and do what you need to do. It is those watching you, those that would cure you if they could, or take the disease personally to free you from it, that have the hardest time.

That being said, has reading the Book of Job gone out of style? There is a big difference between God being in control and illness and death being God's will. I know it wasn't said that way by all, but this illness being a part of God's plan radiates through the testimony and comments.

My God being with me through the valley of the shadow of death is not the same as this is God's will. God's will is for all to be saved, which includes health (same root as "holiness") of mind, body, and spirit.

The start of the Book of Job tells us that Satan must have God's permission before trying us. The end of the Book of Job tells us we will never understand why this permission is given.

God is in complete control, but this illness is not God's will.

Drew (and everyone else), thanks for the comment. We're glad to be praying for John, it's an honor. It's also an honor to see how God is still proving His might and power. We're all in this together. (We'll send over the image soon). - Bo

Thank you for this very inspiring article of a man of God who loves His God and His faith in His Lord during his time of trial.

God is in complete control.

Gracias,

I, being John's son, would like to thank you all for your constant prayers! God has held our family (and me as an individual) together and lifted us up. The pain has been accompanied by numerous blessings and encouraging words. Thank you all! Blessings!

(If you -whoever wrote this article - still have the picture at the top of the article in your database, would you mind sending it to me? I don't have any pictures of him since after the sickness. I would really appreciate it)
