We’re complying a list of our reader’s Top 5 Superhero Movies of All Time and we need your help. We will be featuring your thoughts and picks in an upcoming issue of Rethink Monthly magazine. To submit your choice, simply leave a reply below.
Here are a few of our favorites.
The Dark Knight – I think we can all agree that The Dark Knight is one of the top superhero movies of all time. Christopher Nolan took the series in a different direction with Batman Begins and it was a huge success. He did the same with The Dark Knight and now the Batman series couldn’t get any hotter. Throw in an astounding performance from Heath Ledger, intense action, suspense and phenomenal acting, you have a superhero flick that tops the list.
Spider-Man II – Usually we’re not a big fan of sequels but along came Spider-Man II, the follow up to the hugely successful Spider-Man. We didn’t think it could get much better after the first one but Sam Raimi and the all-star cast opened up the story a bit, allowing for real, dramatic themes to pour in.
Other notables:
Batman Begins
Batman (1989)
Unbreakable
The Incredibles
X-Men

Good list – Dark Knight #1 no contest.
I’m gonna have to go old school and say the original Christopher Reeves Superman should be pretty high up there.
I’d also include Zorro as a predecessor to Batman, so one of my all time fav movies, The Mask of Zorro would be on my list.
Even though it was Joss-less and sucked in the not good, pee-wee herman way, I’d have to give props to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie just for opening up the genre to women superheroes.
V for Vendetta
The Crow
The Rocketeer
Blade
Shoot me, but I liked Wolverine
Would Underworld & Hellboy be in this genre? Maybe not.
V for Vendetta. Agreed. I forgot about that classic. I liked Wolverine as well. Probably better than X-Men. I would also say that Hellboy could be included on the list if the title were Top 5 Superevil Superhero Movies of All Time. Other than that, loved that movie as well.
But as for Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Amy, Amy, Amy … We would’ve picked Catwoman over her! Just sayin…
Thanks for the list Amy!
I said it sucked. And Buffy is a superhero…Catwoman is a supervillain…
Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer, great match of characters with actors.
Bat-Man all of them.lol
1.) The Dark Knight
2.) Superman: The Movie
3.) Iron Man
4.) Watchmen
5.) Batman Begins
6.) Kick-Ass
7.) Spiderman II
8.) V For Vendetta
9.) Hellboy
10.) Spiderman
That’s one serious list Bill. Another shout out to V for Vendetta. This movie keeps rising up in my “to watch again in the near future” list. Thanks for the vote!
I’m thinking Ironman and Conan the Barbarian
Nice! Way to call out old school Arnold. Great movie. Iron Man was another good one. Thanks Doug.
I vote for Iron Man and fantastic 4.
Iron Man seems to be consistently floating to the top. Great choice. I’m hoping Iron Man II can hold it’s own. Also, The Incredibles was a great movie. Thanks for the votes!
What about the Daredevil, he’s got some skills for being blind….just saying
I think Daredevil was voted like the worst superhero movie of all time. Actually, I don’t think it was that bad. But I’ve never been a big Ben Affleck fan anyway.
I have to say I just watched DEFENDOR the other night and while the guy is a couple fries short of a happy meal, his heart is so pure and justice always prevails!
Also, the incredibles. It’s funny because, really, it’s true. You should see how my husband and I argue. =)
I’ve been wanting to see Defendor for some time now. I’ll have to check it out for sure now based on your comments. Thanks for the recommendation.
1 – Iron Man
2 – The Incredibles
I really liked Unbreakable, because of it’s attempt to transport superheroes into our world, and also Hancock for the same reason. Although I don’t think it’s the best I reckon Mystery Men deserves and honourable mention. For me though it’s got to be the Incredibles.
I will go with 1. Dark Knight
2. Unbreakable
3. Superman (the original movie}
4. Spiderman 11 (all of them actually)
5. Zorro
I don’t watch vampire movies or the like so can’t vote on those.
As much as I loved Heath Ledger’s performance in The Dark Knight and thought it was a great movie, my favorite superhero film has been Iron Man. It was funny, smart and action packed.
Beyond that, I really like The Incredibles, the first two Spiderman and the X-Men series.
And, while it’s not a movie, can we just mention the greatness of “The Greatest American Hero”?
Dark Knight undisputed heavyweight champ.
Iron Man
Superman: The Movie
Batman (1989)
Spiderman
Incredibles gets honorable mention
Iron Man is my favorite, hands down. I also really like the X-Men and Spider-man movies. And as much as I love superhero movies, I have to say, I did not like the Dark Knight at all :/ I honestly don’t understand why so many people think its the greatest.
btw i just saw Iron Man 2 the other day and it was pretty bad ass
i approve.
Iron Man 2 sucked! I disapprove.
Nolan treated Batman Begins more like an interpretation of a literary piece and more so with Dark Knight, blending horror, noir and crime-thriller elements. The stories have been intelligent, thought-provoking and timely. The casting and production values are top-notch and second to none. While other directors have been content to pander, Nolan is more single-minded in his approach. If nothing else, his Batman films are the most beautifully photographed of all in the genre.
Hmm,for me:
1.)The Dark Knight-Whatever people say,it's the best,no doubt. It will keep u on the edge of your seats and asking for more.God,i just wish they complete Batman3 soon.
2.)Superman(original)-A classic, which ushered in the era of superhero movies.Christopher Reeve was a dashing actor.RIP.
3.)X2:X-Men United -Best in the X-men series,it had incredible action.Wolverine was good too,but a bit short.
4.)Spiderman 2-Again ,better than SP3(it had too many mistakes),a must-watch movie.
5.)Iron Man-Iron Man 2 had no sensible plot,just a couple of flashy suits.Iron man 1 however,was a fine movie,just as i had expected iron man to be.
#5 X-Men First Class: Yeah, X2 was really good, but the fifth chapter was sensational! It actually tells what happened. It DID have some flaws that made some of the facts in this movie false like, Cyclops being the first in X-Mens 1-4 when it was Mystique in First Class. I still think it's awesome.
#4 Iron Man: I agree on this one, it does tell the story really nice and they didn't have any bad crap in it like SM3.
#3 The Dark Knight: Some of you might say "That should be number 1!" I agree it's amazing and spectacular, but it's not number 1, it's number 3!
#2 Spider-Man 2: I think this is better than the Dark Knight because this tells an awesome story from the comics. Does any DC movie make a movie based on the graphic novels? I didn't think so.
#1 Watchmen: I liked the Superman movie (original 1970's) but this is way better. I didnt know who they were like I was asking, "Who is this hot yellow and black girl and why does she have a crush on 2 guyz" but it told the story way better than any other. If you don't agree, tell me otherwise
1. Watchmen
2. The Avengers
3. Super Man 2
4. Kick Ass
5. The Incredibles
Watchmen is the greatest….EVERRRR!!!!
