Yesterday, via Twitter, Cameron Strang, new father and CEO of Relevant Magazine, said “Being a dad is underrated.”
I couldn’t agree more.
There is something mysterious that entangles the beauty, stress, excitement, frustration, and joy of having children. It’s simply unexplainable. It’s an honor and a privilege and it’s scary as heck all at the same time.
When I first found out that I was soon to become a father, I thought that I needed to know everything there is to know about raising a child and I needed to know it at that moment. I even ran out to the local bookstore and looked for a book or two that would reveal all the secrets of parenthood. Come to find out, several years into my role as a parent, raising a child is an endless, continual process that cannot be taught in school or learned from a New York Times best-selling author. Rather, it’s an evolving process that includes bending the rules at times and enforcing a character that resembles, as closely as humanly possible, the heart of God.
As a Christian, the most important aspect of raising my children falls solely on pointing them to a God that loves and cherishes them. When I come across tools that help in this process, I tend to get a little excited. And thats the reason for this blog post.
Let me introduce to you, The Rizers, a new band that, according to their website, “sings Scripture verses in the form of upbeat, kid-friendly music.”
Awesome.
It’s music to our kids ears, literally. And not just another meaningless tool that dulls the minds and hearts of our children (*cough, Caillou, *cough), but promotes the message of Jesus in a new and innovative way.
“Our mission is simple,” they say, “we want to instill in kids a love for Jesus Christ and his Word through Scripture memory, praise and worship.”
Double awesome.
If you’re interested in finding out more about The Rizers, you can listen to a track at the bottom of this post, or you can go to NoiseTrade.com and trade some info for a FREE 4-song download. You also can purchase the entire album on iTunes or on Amazon or, if you’re like me and want to have an actual copy of the album, you can order it here.
Being a dad is underrated. Next to a follower of Jesus and a husband, it’s truly the most privileged role a man can have, especially when you hear your kids singing praises to Jesus. What could be more awesome?
