“It’s a terrific performance, it’s the performance of his career,” Casey Affleck, director of “I’m Still Here” starring actor (and the director’s brother-in-law) Joaquin Phoenix, said in a recent interview. Most who had seen the film or watched the trailer thought that some sort of the “documentary” was a hoax, but not many expected that virtually the entire movie was a fake.

Even Joaquin Phoenix’s interview with David Letterman back in 2009 was a performance. Although David Letterman wasn’t informed, the filmmaker said, “The idea of a quote, hoax, unquote, never entered my mind.” I’m sure David Letterman, who will be interviewing Joaquin Phoenix again this coming Wednesday, will have some thoughts of his own.
